This report provides an overview of the fight to win immigrant voting legislation in San Francisco, a law also known as “noncitizen voting,” and the effects noncitizen voting has had on immigrant empowerment. The report shares how the program affected immigrants in San Francisco, the barriers they face in exercising their voting rights, and best practices community organizers have used to try to overcome those barriers. AAU | Multilingual Tips for Protection Against Anti-Asian Incidents. Asian Americans United has developed both English and Chinese-language flyers with tips and resources against anti-Asian hate, particularly for those in Philadelphia.
APIAHF | In-language Vaccine Fact Cards APIAHF created fact sheets on receiving the influenza (flu) vaccination during flu season in the United States. Translated into 33 different AA and NH/PI languages, this resource answers common questions and answers regarding flu to help you stay protected this year. Visit the resource website here! APIAHF and Vaccinate Your Family have created fact sheets on paying for vaccines and receiving the flu vaccination. Translated into 30 different AA and NHPI languages, this resource educates community members on paying for vaccines depending on insurance type and about the influenza vaccination. APIAHF and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) have created fact cards for those who may be unsure of their rights to a COVID-19 vaccination. Translated into 26 different AA and NH/PI languages, this resource educates community members on the benefits of getting vaccinated and encourages them to receive their free COVID-19 vaccinations regardless of immigration status, health insurance coverage, and/or Social Security identification. Communities Rally Against Anti-Asian Violence “Love Our People, Heal Our Communities” Cross-Cultural Healing Events took place in Oakland and San Francisco San Francisco & Oakland, CA — “In response to the recent surge in COVID-19 related violence against Asian American communities throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area, the Coalition for Community Safety and Justice (CCSJ) in San Francisco joined forces with a coalition of organizations in Oakland to organize two parallel Days of Action this past weekend, both entitled “Love Our People, Heal Our Communities.” On the first weekend of the Lunar New Year, and a few days after more than 70 Asian American organizations issued a press statement condemning the violence, these two events brought together a multiracial and multigenerational coalition to stand against racism, xenophobia, and violence, and to offer space for healing the grief and pain that Asian communities feel in light of recent events. Together, they called for community-centered solutions to keep diverse communities safe. These include culturally-competent multilingual victim services, cross-racial education and dialogue, prevention-based programs (such as community patrols), and more.” Read the rest of the statement here. Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta will continue to provide tools and information regarding Vote By Mail, Voter Registration, and ways to encourage others to vote in Georgia. The threat of COVID-19 continues to harm community members in Georgia. This unprecedented pandemic has spread through the state rapidly, leaving elections officials to make sweeping changes to the way we vote. Though our elections will continue, a lot is still unclear. Tenant Worker Center Today, the Tenant Worker Center (TWC) educates and organizes low-wage immigrant workers to improve their working conditions and achieve economic justice. In addition, TWC provides strategic services, and advocates for immigrants and working families. Some of these services and programs include wage clinic and the Hospitality and Vocational Training (HVT) program.
