Chhaya CDC | COVID-19 Resource Guide

To address the widespread need from our communities at this time, Chhaya staff have created a regularly updated resource guide including food assistance, services for undocumented residents, mental health, and more to help community members find and access the services and resources they might need during this time of crisis. Please use the links provided to select the service or resource you need. You can also explore resources by using the tabs at the bottom of the resource guide.

Adhikaar | COVID-19 Community Response

One after another, crises and the government’s (lack of) response to the crisis continues to have grave consequences for our members who are immigrants and workers of color. A vast majority of our community members live in Queens, which is the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. Day after day we are responding to this crisis.

Adhikaar has shifted to respond to COVID-19 crisis in Queens. In early March, the organization created a four-part crisis response plan based on thousands of calls made to our members:

  • Direct relief & services
  • Community education
  • Campaigns & advocacy
  • Organizing

Our worker members are in essential and low-wage industries and are working in the frontlines as domestic workers, Uber/Lyft drivers, grocery store workers, delivery services, restaurant workers, and healthcare workers. Many are also unable to go to work and are not eligible for any of the federal relief packages or unemployment from the state. And many live in some of the hardest-hit zip codes in the country. This crisis demonstrates the harrowing realities of our current social and economic systems and the way it affects those that are extremely vulnerable.

Chhaya CDC | COVID-19 Relief Fund

Our communities are fighting for their lives while losing their livelihoods. All the while rent is due, and children are going hungry. Low-income South Asian and Indo-Caribbean New Yorkers are at the center of the COVID-19 pandemic. Every day we hear harrowing stories from our community members — families grieving the loss of loved ones, standing in food pantry lines for hours, and struggling to pay for basic necessities.

In addition to continuing critical services to the community and advocating for relief from government agencies, Chhaya is also responding by bringing cash into the hands of those most in need. With the help of our partners, we have already provided cash assistance to over 200 individuals. Yet, hundreds more have reached out for our help.

Through the Chhaya COVID-19 Relief Fund we aim to raise $50,000 to distribute to community members struggling to meet critical needs. Every dollar raised will go directly to someone in need. Please help us reach this goal by making a donation now. For more information, please visit www.chhayacdc.org or email us at [email protected].
